Public Hearing regarding the General Fund 2025 Operating Budget of the City and Ward One Court of Opelousas.

This matter having previously been set for today, following the required published notice in the Opelousas Daily World, was called at 1:00 PM. No member of the present public wished to participate in the Budget process. The Court reviewed the proposed budget and ordered that it be adopted as presented.

BUDGET ADOPTION INSTRUMENT

FOR BUDGET YEAR 2025

Pursuant to the provisions of LSA-R.S. 39:1305 (A) which provides that "each political subdivision shall cause a comprehensive budget presenting a complete financial plan for the ensuing fiscal year for the general fund and each special revenue fund" and

Pursuant to LSA-R.S. 39:1302 (1) which defines "political subdivision" as inter alia, "independently elected parish offices, including judges, but only insofar as their judicial expense fund.. (emphasis added) which has been interpreted to apply to City Courts; and,

As the "Chief Executive" of City and Ward One Court of Opelousas, I hereby adopt the budget herein contained and authorize the implementation of said budget.

LSA-R.S. 39:1305 (B) does not require the budget of an independently elected parish office to be submitted to any authority, but simply states be completed and made available for public inspection... no later than 15 days prior to the beginning of each fiscal year."

This budget is adopted as of this 11th day of December, 2024, and is available for inspection at the City and Ward One Court of Opelousas, 127 East Grolee Street, Opelousas, Louisiana 70570, between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM on normal business days.
