REGULAR BOARD MEETING
June 10, 2024
The Board of Commissioners of Bayou Cane Fire Protection District of the Parish of Terrebonne, State of Louisiana, met at the main station on Monday, June 8, 2024, at I I :30 AM.
Robert Page called the meeting to order at 11 a.m. Upon roll call by Angela Hidalgo, the following Commissioners were present: Hayward Sims, Robert Page, Suzanne Carlos, Ed Lawson. Jacob Rhodes, Travis Gravois, and Steve Fulmar were recorded as absent. Others in attendance were Kenny Hill, Kay Hebert, Toby Henry, Greg Boudreaux, Brent Tinkes, Brian Boudreaux, Tim Guidry, Louis Eschete, Cody Hebert, Mike Palmer, Ricky Valenti, Joshua Guidry, Adam Schmitt, Sean Torgrimson, Andrea Lawson, Angela Hidalgo, Sonja Labat and Dana Schwab.
No one from the public addressed the board.
Motion by Ed Lawson, seconded by Suzanne Carloss to approve the minutes of the May 13, 2024 meeting. Motion passed.
Old Business: EMS Chief Toby Henry provided an update on the reserve ambulance unit. Quotes for painting have been obtained. A motion was made by Ed Lawson, seconded by Suzanne Carlos, to approve the quote from Creole Paintwork in the amount of $13,000. Motion carried.
New Business: EMS Chief Toby Henry requested approval to join the Ambulance Alliance. A motion was made by Hayward Sims, seconded by Ed Lawson to allow the District to become members of the Ambulance Alliance. Motion carried.
Staff Reports: Chief Kenny Hill 8reported there have been 318 calls for the month of May, 1500 calls year-to-date. He presented the breakdown for the month and the analytics report. State of LA House Bill 782 included a request for $200k for the training field/burn building, which was passed by the legislature. Also the legislature approved the extension request for prior year appropriations. The improvements to the burn building should be complete within two weeks.
Fire Prevention Chief Mike Palmer reported on the New Business Construction Report, renovations, smoke alartn installations, permits, fireworks pen-nits, and annual inspections. The district held seven school outreach events, reaching 589 students and over 300 adults. He asked the board to please like and share their social media postings.
EMS Chief Toby Henry reported the EMS class is coming to an end, with the final testing on the 24th . He discussed the recent cardiac arrest at Ellendale Country Club. He will be providing training to their staff on use of the AED device. He reported their have been 1 78 ambulance transports for May, 309 contacts with patients. One patient was transported to University Hospital and one patient was transported to the VA Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Also, 48% of the time, the ambulance division was running simultaneous calls with the fire calls.
Robert Page noted that the District should consider Good Samaritan Awards for those citizens whodemonstrate outstanding efforts in emergency situations.
Chief of Operations Brain Boudreaux reported they attended Leadership Terrebonne's Environment Day and the Boot Camp refresher course. There will be an Incident Management class at the end of the month. There are two recruits on shift, and the new EMTs will be assigned to shift immediately after class is completed. They are planning the class graduation. Hurricane policies are done, all checks have been completed, and the department is ready for hurricane season.
Motion by Ed Lawson, seconded by Suzanne Carlos, to approve the financial report as presented. Motion passed.
Board Members: The board encouraged the staff to keep up the good work and to stay safe.
Motion by Ed Lawson seconded by Hayward Sims to adjourn the meeting at 12:25 p.m. Motion passed. The next regular scheduled meeting is Monday, July 8, 2024, at 11 :30 a.m.
