TOWN OF JONESVILLE COUNCIL MEETING

104 LILLY STREET JONESVILLE LA 71343 MINUTES

On July 9, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. a regular meeting was held in the Townhall meeting room at 104 Lilly Street, Jonesville LA 71343. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Loria Hollins. Roll was called to determine a quorum by Peggy Beard, Assistant Town Clerk. Present were council members: June Gayden, Angela Carter, Catina Branch and Dexter Jefferson. Absent council member was Shalonda Branch.

The Invocation was given by Mayor Loria Hollins and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Attorney Joey Boothe.

Mayor Hollins called for any person(s) to identify themselves and the agenda item(s) in which they wish to comment on in accordance with Act 850 of 2010.

Motion/Move by Council Member Catina Branch and second by Council Member June Gayden to approve the minutes for June 25, 2024, public hearing and special meeting. Motion was carried.

Motion/Moved by Council Member Catina Branch and second by Council Member June Gayden to approve the monthly bills for the Town of Jonesville. Motion was carried.

Recognition of Visitors:

Emanuel Lewis, Pan American Engineers gave the monthly engineering report for the Town of Jonesville.

Cannan Cotton of JCP Management gave the monthly report for the water department. Motion/Moved by Catina Branch and second by Dexter Jefferson. Motion was carried.

Motion/Move by Council Member Catina Branch and second by Council Member Angela Carter to adopt resolution to accept the 2023 MWPP (Wastewater Plan) as required by LDEQ. Motion carried.

Dona Manuel, CPA for the Town of Jonesville gave the monthly financial report. A motion was made by Council member Catina Brand and second by Council Member June Gayden to accept the monthly financial report. Motion was carried.

Motion/Move by Council member Catina Branch and second by Council Member Angela Carter , that a notice was hereby given that at its meeting to be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 At 6:00 P.M. at its regular meeting place, the Town Hall, 104 Lilly Street, Jonesville, Louisiana, the Mayor and Board of Alderman of the Town of Jonesville, State of Louisiana, plans to consider adopting a resolution ordering and calling an election to be held within the Town of Jonesville, State of Louisiana to authorize the renewal of a sales and use tax therein. Motion was carried.

Public hearing and special meeting on millage will be July 16, 2024 at 5:00 P.M..

A Motion/Move was made by Council Member Catina Branch and seconded by Council Member Angela Carter to authorize John A. Reeves to move a mobile home from 1010 Jeffery Street, Ville Platte, LA to lot next to 211 Third Street, Jonesville LA 71343. Motion was carried.

A Motion/Move was made by Council Member Catina Branch and second by Council Member Dexter Jefferson to authorize Wilbert Curry to move a mobile home from 1300 Hwy 564 Jonesville, LA to 1201 Martin Luther King Drive, Jonesville, LA 71343. Motion was carried.

Superintendent Report: Employee issues

Chief of Police Report: Report given by Chief Tolliver, Officer Wyckoff and Officer Clark will be attending Police Academy.

Town Attorney: None

Council Members: (District Concerns)

June Gayden: Grass needs to be cut throughout the district. Trees growing in street by Lisa Bowie resident. Limbs down and need to be picked up and Potholes need to be repaired.

Dexter Jefferson: Zachary Bowman has issues with light in backyard. Drainage problems at Samuel Gilbert and Zack Mosley resident. Property at 106 Valmont needs to be cut. Properties own by businesses (Exxon/Hammers) garbage needs to be taken care of properly. Potholes near Vickie Johnson resident.

Angela Carter: Charles Jackson has issues with his drainage.

Catina Branch: Potholes and Problem on Mound Street with vacant lots.

Mayor's Report

l. Backpack Drive will be distributed during the month of July.

2. LMA Conference to be held August 1, 2024, through August 3, 2024.

3. Jonesville Main Street Market to be held on July 20, 2024.

4. Back to School Fun Day to be held on August 17, 2024

5. Fan Drive will be distributed during the month of August.

6. Informal meeting with Police Jury Members on Thursday July 11, 2024 at 5:00 P.M.

A motion/move was made by Council Member Catina Branch and seconded by Council Member Angela Carter for adjournment. Motion was carried.
