Regular Meeting

February 13, 2024

The Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, Town of Franklinton, La. was held at the Municipal Building at 6:00 P.M.

Present: Mayor Gregory Route, Aldermen: T. J. Butler, Darwin Sharp, Heath Spears, and Patrice Crain and Attorney James Knight. Absent: Alderman Seth Descant. Mayor Route called the meeting to order; established a quorum and the Meeting was opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Unfinished Business

1. Approve minutes-January 23, 2024, Regular Meeting – On a motion by Alderman Butler, the Board unanimously approved the January 23, 2024 minutes.

New Business

1. The Mayor will present awards for Citizens of the Year – Mayor Route presented awards to Mr. Jeff Tageant, Mr. Armond Barker, Dr. Vincent Johnson, Dr. Libeau Berthelot, Dr. Gerlad Foret and Dr. Mark James.

2. The Board will vote to adopt a resolution for an intergovernmental agreement with Washington Parish Government for sidewalk improvements – On a motion by Alderman Crain, the Board unanimously voted to adopt a resolution for an intergovernmental agreement with Washington Parish Government for sidewalk improvements.

3. The Board will vote to cancel the 2/27/2024 meeting – On a motion by Alderman Sharp, the Board unanimously voted to cancel the 2/27/2024 meeting.

4. The Board will vote to advertise for a firm to manage construction, maintenance and grants for the Franklinton airport – On a motion by Alderman Sharp, the Board unanimously voted to advertise for a firm to manage construction, maintenance and grants for the Franklinton airport.

Deputy Chief Cody Brumfield presented three quotes for 5 sets of fire gear. The quotes were from Bonaventure for $17,291, Navco for $18,400.94 and BGS for $17,125. Deputy Chief Brumfield suggested the quote from Bonaventure be chosen because they sell the brand of gear the fire department is already using. Ona motion by Alderman Sharp, the Board unanimously voted to purchase the fire gear from Bonaventure.

There was no public participation.

The aldermen congratulated the award winners and thanked them for their service to the Town. Mayor Route spoke about the contributions of the award winners.

On a motion by Alderman Sharp, the board unanimously voted to adjourn.
