PLACE OF MEETING

The Calcasieu Parish School Board Special Called Meeting was held at 3310 Broad Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

The meeting was called to order by Eric Tarver, President, at 5:08 p.m. The prayer and pledge were on the agenda for the preceding A&P Committee Meeting.

ROLL CALL

The roll was called by Superintendent LaFargue and the following members were present:

Betty Washington, Tony OBanion, Dean Roberts, Glenda Gay, Shawn Baumgarten, Patrick Pichon, Desmond Wallace, Russell Castille, Karen Hardy-McReynolds, Eric Tarver, Aaron Natali, and Billy Breaux.

Absent: Damon Hardesty, Mary Fontenot, Phyllis Ayo

Dr. LaFargue presented the weather information and two items for action:

Delayed Start Procedure

On a motion to approve by Mr. Wallace and a second by Mr. Pichon, the motion carried with one nay vote. Mr. Tarver asked that Dr. Washingtons nay vote be noted.

Adding Instructional Minutes to the 2023-2024 Calendar:

Mr. Roberts, with a second by Mr. Natali, offered a motion to approve changing May 22 to a full day for students and changing May 23 from an in-service day to an instructional day.

Mr. OBanion, with a second by Dr. Washington, offered an amendment to the original motion to asked for a waiver from BESE on the required instructional minutes. The motion carried on a unanimous vote.

On the amended original motion, the motion carried on a unanimous vote to change the calendar, if the waiver is not approved.

ADJOURN MEETING

On a motion to adjourn by Mr. Breaux and a second by Dr. Washington, the meeting was adjourned at 7:29 p.m.
