The Village of Simsboro.Town Hall Meeting February 5, 2024, 6:00 P.M. The Village of Simsboro met in Regular session on February 4, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. Council members present were Alderwoman Hazel Tuminello, Alderman Doug Durrett and Alderman Jerry White. Mayor Foster called the meeting to order and led the prayer and Alderman Doug Durrett led the pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Foster presented the Agenda to the Aldermen and asked for motion to accept as presented. Motion was made by Alderman Jerry White and seconded by Alderman Doug Durrett. Agenda was approved. Mayor Foster asked if there were any questions or corrections from January 8, 2023, minutes and there were none. A motion was made by Alderwoman Hazel Tuminello and seconded by Alderman Doug Durrett to accept the minutes as read. MOTION PASSED. APPROVAL OF MUNICIPAL BILLS: The Aldermen were provided with a report of Accounts payable to review. Mayor Foster asked if there was any discussion of the bills. There were none. A motion was made to pay the municipal bills by Alderman Doug Durrett and seconded by Alderman Jerry White. MOTION PASSED. JIM LINER REPORT: Jim Liner reported Roseburg had been bought out by Kronospan. Kronospan would be renovating the facility for approximately three months and would need 24/7 fire protection, requiring a truck and two men on a volunteer basis as the renovations are being completed. PUBLIC COMMENT: Mr. Joe Reed and Mr. David Olds raised the question of the new water lines being laid on Rose Street. They both shared concerns that part of Rose Street did not have new lines laid. The mayor informed them she would check with the engineer and report back to them as soon as possible. WATER AND SEWER REPORT: A.J. Swayze was absent. Jerry Davis reported the treatment plant is functioning well. He stated the Braswell Lane and Hwy 80 East pumps had to be pumped out and are now working fine. He also mentioned that the heavy rain does cause issues at this location. POLICE REPORT: Chief Gene Butler reported all is going well in the Village. He stated the grant for the new radar was almost complete. The Chief mentioned concerns about the safety of the Hwy 507 and Hwy 80 intersection. He is going to reach out to the Highway Department to have them assess the situation, and get the limbs and growth removed. He informed the council that he was looking forward to the Louisiana Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference this year. MAYOR'S REPORT: The mayor's report was very brief. She mentioned that the projects are progressing well. IN CLOSING: Alderman Jerry White mentioned before the close of the meeting that he wanted to recommend that Mayor Smalling-Foster be recognized for her dedication to the Village of Simsboro, for the time put into the projects of the new water lines, a new well and a new sewer treatment plant among many other accomplishments. Alderman Jerry White recommended a raise in pay for Mayor Smalling-Foster, which is long overdue after nearly 10 years of service to her community. The raise was seconded by Alderman Doug Durrett, as well as Alderwomen Hazel Tuminello. AJOURN MEETING: Motion was made By Alderman Doug Durrett and seconded by Alderman Jerry White to adjourn meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 6:25 P.M.
