Lafourche Parish Fire District 3 February 27, 2024 Regular Meeting
The regular meeting of the Lafourche Parish Fire Protection District Number Three Board of Commissioners was held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. The meeting took place at the Lafourche Parish Fire District 3, Fire Central Training Building in Cut Off. Chairman Reggie Pitre called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. PLEDGE TO THE AMERICAN FLAG: Chairman Pitre led the pledge to our flag. ROLL CALL OF COMMISSIONERS: Chairman Reggie Pitre ? Present; Vice-Chairman Dean Savoie ? Present; Commissioner Morris Guidry ? Present; Commissioner Aaron Montez ? Present; Commissioner Troy Dufrene ? Present. APPROVAL OF BOARD MEETING MINUTES: Commissioner Savoie moved to accept the minutes of the January 23, 2024, Regular Board Meeting, as written, seconded by Commissioner Montez. No public comments.
Vote held: Commissioner Savoie ? Yea; Commissioner Guidry ? Yea; Commissioner Dufrene - Yea; Commissioner Montez ? Yea OLD BUSINESS: Brenton Hebert with GIS Engineering presented Pay App No. 3 for Port Fourchon's Driveway in the amount of $25,170. Commissioner Dufrene moved to pay Picciola Construction in that amount, seconded by Commissioner Montez. No public comments. Vote held: Commissioner Savoie ? Yea; Commissioner Guidry ? Yea; Commissioner Dufrene - Yea; Commissioner Montez ? Yea. BH advised Leeville's Pre-Construct meeting next Monday; construction set to start mid-March. Chairman Pitre asked for a timeline, to which Hebert advised approximately 120 days. Chief Dedon advised GIS completed Belle Amie's documents, waiting on CSRS to review. NEW BUSINESS: None. FIRE CHIEF'S REPORT: Fire Chief Devin Dedon advised Station 15's generator caught fire; Fire Marshal's office to investigate. Ryan found the damage on Wednesday morning, during weekly generator checks. Contacted insurance, will cover the cost of the generator, which is approximately 10 years old. In case of emergency, will move Port Fourchon's generator to Station 15. Spoke about the upcoming March 16th Town Hall Meeting. Fire Prevention was held at Sonic on Thursday night. Commissioner Savoie asked about the money from Senator Mike Fesi; was advised the first half was received. He, then, asked about the $225K from GOHSEP; was advised we are still waiting, but CSRS assured we will receive it. COMMUNICATION'S REPORT: Communications Supervisor Mary Rotolo was not present. Chief Dedon stated Telecommunications is doing a great job. MECHANIC'S REPORT: Master Mechanic Ryan Pitre was not present. Chief Dedon stated Ryan is also doing a great job keeping up with old equipment. Commissioner Dufrene asked the age of the oldest and newest trucks: 1984 and 2020. Commissioner Dufrene stated kudos mechanic, department, and firefighters for keeping the equipment up to make them look new. Chief Dedon advised people don't know the expense of keeping with these trucks. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Announced a seminar on May 8th in Mathews; recommended all board members attend. FINANCE COMMITTEE: Finance Committee met. Commissioner Savoie motion to approve to continue paying the bills, all in order, seconded by Commissioner Dufrene. Public comments: None. Commissioner Savoie: Keep up the good job and spread the word about the upcoming election. Commissioner Dufrene: Millage and jobs: Show people that y'all do so much more than fight fire. If people can't see that, they are blind. Commissioner Montez: It's all been said. Chairman Pitre stated this board has a wide spectrum of wisdom and input. General public doesn't realize everything it takes to run such a professional operation. Thanked Jeray and her team for everything they do for our community. Jeray thanked the fire district for showing us how to love people. They will support us. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Battalion I Chief Jim Montez spoke about the structure fire on February 26th. It could have been so much worse. Citizens were very thankful and surprised by the quick response. Stated without paid firefighters and the quick response, the houses could've been gone. If they had to wait on volunteers, it would've been much worse. Montez continued to praise our firefighters and everything they do and hopes the public understands everything we do as a department. Stated he wants to see the department continue as long as he's still here and beyond. Chief Dedon thanked Bourg FD and Lockport FD for coverage during that fire. Chairman Pitre talked about response times with a volunteer-only department. Commissioner Savoie moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:52 PM, seconded by Commissioner Montez.
