MEETING OF October 16, 2023
Lafourche Parish Recreation District #8, held its monthly meeting on October 16, 2023. The meeting was scheduled for October 9, 2023, but had to be changed to October 16, 2023, as there were not enough members available to attend. The meeting was held in the Gheens Community Center located at 1783 Hwy. 654, Gheens, LA. These are the proceedings of the meeting held:
1. The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Freddie Breaux III, at 7:40 pm
2. Cody Gautreaux led the group in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance
3. Present: Chairman, Freddie Breaux, III
Board Members Present: Cody Gautreaux, Mike OGwynn and Toby Dufrene
Board Members Absent: Jeremiah Champagne is resigning.
Director, Robert Landry, Secretary-Linda Toups, Charlene Davaine and Lane Toups were present. Also present was Colton Dufrene, Toby Dufrenes son.
4. Freddie Breaux then read the Public Comment Notice Recognizing the Citizens who want to address the Board. Since there was no one from the public present to address the Board, Freddie Breaux proceeded with the next item on the agenda.
5. The Minutes of the meeting held on September 11, 2023, were approved with no opposition on a motion from Cody Gautreaux and a second from Toby Dufrene.
6. The Treasury report was also approved, with no opposition, on a motion from Toby Dufrene and a second from Mike OGwynn.
7. Old Business:
a. Pads for Bleachers
Still on hold.
b. Cameras:
The cameras are not working properly. Expert Technology will have to be contacted.
c. Electrical issues in the Kitchen and Park
The issues have been resolved.
d. Park Benches
This project is still on hold for now.
e. Ball Park Dirt:
None has been ordered yet.
f. Recreational Planner
Still nothing new.
g. Monster Mash:
All booths have been filled and everything else will be done by Saturday.
h. Weed Control:
Brandon Eschete has redone the flower bed but the weeds are still growing back.
i. Ice Machine:
We are waiting to hear from the Community Center.
j. Jeremiah Champagne:
Freddie Breaux read Jeremiah Champagnes resignation notice. A copy will be sent to Kellie Toups.
k. Any other old business
None.
8. New Business:
a. Approving Bills for payment:
Mike OGwynn made a motion to pay the bills presented with the exception of the invoice from Expert Technology. Freddie will contact John Kaiser to recheck the cameras. As soon as they are functioning properly, he will receive payment. Toby Dufrene seconded his motion. Motion passed with no opposition.
b. Any other new Business:

Scheduled for November 13, 2023
9. Adjournment:
A motion to adjourn was made by Cody Gautreaux and seconded by Mike OGwynn. Motion passed with no opposition. Freddie Breaux, Chairman, then adjourned the meeting at 8:28 pm.
