DESOTO PARISH

POLICE JURY

ADOPTION OF REAPPORTIONMENT PLAN C

AN ORDINANCE REAPPORTIONING SINGLE MEMBER VOTING DISTRICTS FOR THE DESOTO PARISH POLICE JURY, LOUISIANA, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE 2020 CENSUS

WHEREAS, it was determined that based on the 2020 census counts, the election districts for the DeSoto Parish Police Jury were malapportioned, and

WHEREAS, the Police Jury undertook an effort to realign the election districts to balance the population counts and maintain minority representation in accordance with Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and applicable State statutes, and

WHEREAS, Plan C is hereby designated at the Redistricting Plan for the DeSoto Parish Police Jury, and

WHEREAS, Plan C creates new precincts, more fully described and enumerated in the accompanying Precinct Ordinance, and

WHEREAS, the DeSoto Parish Police Jury hereby authorizes the demographer to submit the Redistricting Plan C and the accompanying Precinct Ordinance to the Louisiana State Legislative Office and the Louisiana Secretary of State for review and approval.

THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the DeSoto Parish Police Jury, in regular session assembled, that this Ordinance adopting the Redistricting Plan B as described to -wit:

This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force upon publication in the official journal of the Parish and as allowed by law.

This ordinance having been offered this 4th day of April, 2022 having been published in accordance with law and having been heard in a public hearing in Mansfield, Louisiana on the 18th day of April 2022 was adopted by the following vote, motion by Burrell and seconded by Fuller:
